We're looking at a couple of releases from the Cadenheads January 2025 Authentic Collection.
Cadenheads Springbank 11yo Authentic Collection January 2026
Region: Campbeltown
ABV: 54.5%
Price: £75.00
This single cask Springbank was fully matured in a bourbon cask and bottled in January 2026 at cask strength for Cadenhead’s Authentic Collection. The outturn was 186 bottles.
Nose
The nose is initially a little tight, but with patience we get marshmallows toasted on a log fire, cheap aftershave, limoncello, freshly chopped pineapple, and a little strawberry yoghurt. There’s also a hint of Campbeltown funk here giving away the distillery. We’re also getting a touch of pepper spice from the alcohol, but it’s not off putting.
Palate
There’s more peat than we expected on the palate. We’re getting dried earth, burnt vegetation, marshmallows, orange rind, and lemon marmalade. A medium length finish follows, with the aforementioned sweetness lingering alongside a hint of cracked black pepper and a little Campbeltown funk. The dram itself is a touch mouth drying, but the mouthfeel is good with a little weight to it.
Nose (with water)
Water brings out more spice, alongside dunnage warehouse funk, raspberries, and tobacco. We’re also finding those pre dilution peaty notes are also more pronounced on the nose now.
Palate (with water)
While the nose got spicier, water has further mellowed the spice on the palate. We’re also finding the dram is no longer mouth drying and it is sweeter, but the sweetness now feels more synthetic, think caramel and brown sugar as opposed to fruits. The Campbeltown funk has dimmed somewhat, and the dram feels more Speyside in nature. The finish is largely unchanged.
Conclusion
Good with or without water, but we lean towards drinking it undiluted as it better allows the distillery character to shine. Another solid Springbank and another solid release from Cadenheads.
Score: 7.5/10
Value
A good price for a cask strength release from the distillery.
Cadenheads Teaninich 11yo Authentic Collection January 2026
Region: Highlands
ABV: 58.2%
Price: £60.00
This release was distilled in 2014 and Bottled for the Authentic Collection after a finishing period in a rum barrel. Outturn of 150 bottles.
Nose
Initially on the nose we find plantain, bananas, white sugar, whipped cream, cinnamon biscuits, and custard creams. With a little air some green apples and brown sugar appears. Minimal alcohol spice for the ABV. We’re not massively enamoured by the nose to be honest.
Palate
The mouthfeel is a touch on the thin side given the ABV. There’s upfront blood orange bitterness, more of that banana from the nose, along with simple syrupy, a hint of ash, pears, and lemon juice. That bitter notes returns with some cinnamon spice on the short finish. This reminds us a little of a skip crisp, the flavours fizz briefly then just disappear.
Nose (with water)
Water hasn’t materially changed the nose, but it has brought out a little starch while the plantain note is now more like fried plantain. The alcohol spice is still minimal.
Palate (with water)
Water has added some spice, but the trade off is that this has lost some of its bitterness. The flavours aren’t wildly different with a little dilution, but the intensity of some of the notes have increased while others have dimmed slightly. Weirdly the mouthfeel has improved.
Conclusion
We’re a bit fussy when it comes to rum casks and this really isn’t our style of rum cask. Putting our biases aside we still couldn’t honestly say that this is a good dram. Passable, but we won’t remember it tomorrow.
