Glencadam 2015 11yo Cask 104 (Royal Mile Whiskies Exclusive)

We're looking at a single bourbon cask release from Glencadam distillery.

Glencadam 2015 11yo Cask 104 (Royal Mile Whiskies Exclusive)

Region: Highlands

ABV: 58.5%

Price: £79.95

Distilled at Glencadam on the 12th January 2015 and bottled on the 18th of May 2026 after 11 years of maturation, this official single cask release was selected exclusively for Royal Mile Whiskies. It was matured in a first-fill bourbon cask that produced 258 bottles.

Nose
The nose opens with Victoria sponge cake, orange peel, strawberry jam, icing sugar, lemon bonbons, apple pie and brown sugar. There’s also a little pepper showing the alcohol spice. After air we also notice a little mango puree and brown butter. For us this nose a few years older and we’d have guessed this was 15 years old.

Palate

It’s very soft on the palate, with whipped cream, apricot yoghurt and a warmth from white pepper spice on the finish, though that spice is well balanced by the sweetness. There’s also some apple and orange notes similar to the nose. The mouthfeel is really good and has a thickness to it. Not the most complex dram, but it is tasty.

Nose (with water)

With water, the nose has more icing sugar, warehouse must and funk, but the alcohol is now also more noticeable. There’s pencil shavings, dry wood, vanilla bonbons, caramel and barley sugar. It’s simpler and a touch spicier, but still pleasant to nose. The mango has reduced.

Palate (with water)

Water has brought out more sweet than fruity notes, with sweet vanilla, crème brûlée, custard, icing sugar and a hint of fudge. The spice is in slightly better balance, but the mouthfeel, while still good, has taken a slight hit. There’s also a touch of dark chocolate bitterness, along with a little more spice, ginger and Edinburgh rock.

Conclusion

There’s a nice mix of flavours and aromas here and, while we’ve not bought a bottle yet, we keep ordering drams when we’re out and about, so perhaps we should take that as a sign. Solid bourbon cask whisky from a distillery that doesn’t get enough love.

Score: 7/10

Value

A few pounds less and we would have probably bought one.
