Fragrant Drops Glentauchers 11yo 2014 Cask #9900083 & Fragrant Drops Glen Moray 18yo 2007 Cask #6357

We're looking at a few single casks from Fragrant Drops.

Fragrant Drops Glentauchers 11yo 2014 Cask #9900083

Region: Speyside

ABV: 64.2%

Price: £74.95

Distilled at Glentauchers on the 23rd September 2014 and bottled by Fragrant Drops on the 28th May 2026 after 11 years of maturation, this single-cask release was fully matured in first-fill Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion red wine barrique from Château des Laurets. The cask produced 284 bottles.

Nose

The nose opens with porridge, roasted peanuts, actually make that peanut butter, alongside dusty wardrobes, lemon and lime. Not that it’s necessarily a bad thing, but it’s difficult to get past all that nuttiness initially, although the alcohol is impressively well integrated given the 64.2% ABV. There’s also a faint burnt note sitting in the background.

Palate

The palate is very different, opening with a big hit of red fruit alongside ginger, rice crackers, icing sugar and fudge. Lemon zest, pistachios and caramel sauce follow, with all the flavours gelling together surprisingly well. It’s a touch mouth drying, but the mouthfeel is good, while warming pepper spice appears towards the end of the medium length finish.

Nose (with water)

Water brings out considerably more of the red fruit that was largely missing from the neat nose, particularly cherries and cranberries. The alcohol remains nicely balanced, while the nuttier notes from before dilution have moved into the background.

Palate (with water)

The mouthfeel has held up well with water and there’s now a slightly fizzy quality to the palate. Sour cherries join the pre-dilution flavours, bringing the palate much more in line with the reduced nose. The finish remains medium in length, with just a slight hint of spice.

Conclusion

This feels like a whisky that could divide opinion. It’s definitely what we will refer to as a “Wine Bomb” which we quite enjoy, but can see some might find this just a touch too mouth drying for their tastes. We’re just happy to see Fragrant drops continue to do very good wine cask matured whiskies.

Score: 7.5/10

Value

At £74.95 for an 11yo single cask bottled at 64.2%, the pricing feels reasonable, particularly if full-term red wine maturation is your thing.

Fragrant Drops Glen Moray 18yo 2007 Cask #6357

Region: Speyside

ABV: 54.1%

Price: £99.95

Distilled at Glen Moray on the 6th December 2007 and bottled by Fragrant Drops on the 29th May 2026 after 18 years of maturation, this single-cask release was fully matured in refill bourbon barrel which produced 218 bottles.

Nose

The nose is very sweet, with icing sugar and toffee alongside some freshly cut grass, Pear drops, and cardamom. Going back we’re finding limoncello, strawberries and cream, and milk. There’s minimal alcohol spice, making this particularly approachable at 54.1%.

Palate

The palate is also very sweet, opening with orange marmalade, burnt toffee and icing sugar. Dried mango, lemon juice and honey follow on the mid palate. Cracked black pepper spice makes an appearance towards the end of the medium length finish. The mouthfeel is a touch thin, but doesn’t overly detract from the dram.

Nose (with water)

Water brings out some mustiness and strawberry jam, alongside more alcohol spice in the form of pepper. Lime cordial, cashew nuts and brown sugar appear with a little patience.

Palate (with water)

The palate is less spicy after dilution, with more passion fruit coming through. The mouthfeel has actually improved and is now a touch syrupy, while rice crackers and an orange ice lolly note, almost Solero-like, appear alongside the other notes. The finish remains medium in length.

Conclusion

This is a very approachable Glen Moray and is perfectly drinkable neat or with dilution. It’s just missing a little something needed to take it to the next level.

Score: 7/10

Value

At around £100 for an 18yo single-cask Glen Moray, the pricing feels reasonable.
