Cask Le Sens Glen Garioch 13 Year Old (Recital 57.3 Magdalena’s Reverie) Cask #3732

Region: Highlands

ABV: 57.8%

Price: £81.00

Distilled in November 2011 and bottled in August 2025 after 13 years of maturation, this Glen Garioch was drawn from a first fill bourbon barrel. Bottled by Cask Le Sens for Whisky Concerto Just 120 bottles were released.

Nose
The nose is a little tight. With time we find watermelon, pepper spice, fresh strawberries, and raspberries, alongside brown sugar. As it opens up, that classic Glen Garioch sweet shop note we always get starts to appears: pear drops, strawberry laces, and a touch of toasted oak particularly stand out.

Palate

It’s a little spicy, but a good example of bourbon cask Glen Garioch. Kahlúa coffee liqueur, watermelon Jolly Ranchers, strawberry laces, and black pepper all carry through to a medium length finish. With notes of Robinsons Summer Fruits cordial and blackberry joining those other notes. Although that finish is a little mouth drying The mouthfeel is solid.

Nose (with water)

The nose is not wildly different with water, though some of that pepper spice has dimmed. That coffee note is more noticeable now, almost like a 50/50 mix of coffee and whisky.

Palate (with water)

The mouthfeel has held up to a few drops of water. There is less coffee now and it is less mouth drying. It now reminds us of Lilt mixed with Um Bongo. The finish remains medium in length, with that spice in better balance. The sweetness feels less synthetic now and more like real fruits.

Conclusion

We’re big fans of the distillery and while this isn’t our favourite ever Glen Garioch it’s definitely a good example of the distillery in bourbon wood.

Score: 7/10

Value

Not a bad price given the distillery, especially considering it has been released by a smaller independent bottler.
